MCDii Tenant Insurance Program

MCDii Tenant Insurance Program

MCDii (parent company of Daniel Rental Properties) has teamed up with Cheep Insurance to offer a simple and user friendly tenant insurance program just for you! If you live in one of the MCDii buildings with the program, you can opt in for coverage online in just minutes!

How it Works

How it works

1. Complete our simple online opt in process

Click the button below and follow the prompts to complete our simple online opt-in process. Just select your building, fill out the requested info and submit your request. The whole process only takes about 5 minutes!

How it works

2. Instantly receive confirmation of insurance

If you’re eligible for coverage through the program, you’ll instantly receive an email with your confirmation of insurance (a copy will also be sent to your landlord for you). If you’re not eligible for insurance through the program, you’ll be notified right away and our team will be in touch with more info.

How it works

3. Monthly payments are collected with your rent

Your monthly insurance payment of $15/month will be collected by your landlord along with your rent payment each month. Your landlord will send your payment to Cheep Insurance on your behalf. This simplifies things for you and reduces the number of payments coming out of your account each month.

Protect your belongings & your family

Tenant insurance provides three main types of protection:

1. Personal Property Coverage (also know as contents coverage) helps cover costs to replace or repair your personal belongings if they’re stolen or damaged/destroyed by a covered loss (such as a fire). You may think your stuff isn’t worth much, but replacing it all adds up and can be very expensive!

2. Personal Liability Coverage protects you from having to cover costs if you are found legally responsible for damage to the property of others (including the building you live in) or injuries others incur as an accidental result of your actions (or those of your family).

3. Additional Living Expense Coverage helps cover expenses, such as hotel room bills and meals, that your family may face if your apartment is uninhabitable because it’s being repaired as part of an insurance claim and you have to temporarily live somewhere else.

4. Sewer Back Up Coverage helps cover costs to repair damages made by the sudden and accidental backing up or escape of water or sewage within the building or its units through sewage pipes on the premises.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this tenant insurance program mandatory?

No – you are not required to opt in for tenant insurance through the Cheep Insurance Apartment Protection Program.

However, tenant insurance is a mandatory part of your lease agreement, so you do need to set up tenant insurance coverage to make sure you’re complying with your lease. If you would prefer to set up coverage outside the Cheep Insurance Apartment Protection Program or through a different insurance company or brokerage, that works too! You just need to fill out this opt out form with your policy information so your landlord knows you have an active tenant insurance policy in place.

How much am I covered for through the program?

The coverage limits and deductible for your Cheep Insurance Apartment Protection Program policy can be found in your Coverage Summary.

Your policy documents (which you will receive via email when you opt in for the program) will provide a detailed overview of what you’re insured for and any policy exclusions – we recommend reading over them fully when you receive them.

Some items such as jewellery, collectibles, electronics & bicycles have special limits of insurance. These are listed in the Coverage Summary as well.

Can I change my policy coverage?

Unfortunately, with this particular program, you can’t change your coverage or policy limits. The coverage and price point for the program are a pacakage deal.

You can, however, set up a tenant insurance policy with Cheep Insurance outside the program and customize your policy limits and coverages with the help of one of our brokers. If you’d like to discuss options, give our sales team a call at 1.866.922.4337.

How do I make a payment?

Your monthly tenant insurance payments are collected by your landlord along with your rent each month, so there’s nothing you need to do to make a payment! When you opt into the program, your landlord will add your monthly insurance payment of $15.00 per month to the amount they collect from you each month for rent.

If one of your monthly payments for your rent and tenant insurance bounces and you’re looking to make up the payment, you’ll need to get in touch with your landlord.

How do I make a claim?

If you need to report a claim, contact our support team via phone at 1.866.922.4337 or via email at [email protected] and we’d be happy to help you through the process.

Why does my policy expire at the end of the month?

The tenant insurance policies offered through the Cheep Insurance Apartment Protection Program (CAPP) are month-to-month policies, meaning they expire and automatically renew at the end of each month. These policies have a one month policy period instead of a one year policy period (which is what many tenant insurance policies have) because they’re exclusively offered in select apartment buildings.

If you move out of the building, your policy will be non-renewed at the end of the month and you won’t have to pay any cancellation fees for cancelling your policy early. This simplifies policy management for you, for your landlord, and for Cheep Insurance (and saves you a few bucks in the process!)

What happens when I move?

The Apartment Protection Program is offered exclusively through select apartment buildings, so you’ll need to cancel this particular policy when you move out. To do this, contact our support team via phone at 902.463.1675 or via email at [email protected].

Cheep Insurance would be happy to help you set up a new policy outside the program for your new home or apartment! Tenant insurance and home insurance quotes can be requested through our website, or you can call our sales team at 902.463.1675.
